Comprehensive Academic English 综合学术英语 | The students of the preparatory course will study abroad, so they need to have a certain academic English ability of, at least, a basic standard. This course is aimed at providing language support for students to study abroad in the future. Combining English learning with daily academic activities. This course teaches general skills and qualities in academic English, such as how to listen to lectures, take notes, listen to the hidden meaning, ask questions, and verbally describe diagrams or concepts. It also teaches students how to read effectively, write reports, write summaries, prepare flowcharts, cite references, use comparisons, classify, define and cause and effect in writing. These academic English skills and qualities are essential for college students to complete higher education and carry out research at home and abroad. The cultivation of critical thinking and scientific thinking is also one of the main objectives of this course. |
Intercultural Communication 跨文化交流 | This course covers core topics of Chinese and western culture and is divided into 18 modules. Centering on the three dimensions of intercultural communication awareness, intercultural communication practice and intercultural communication competence evaluation, each unit includes three independent topics that are also interrelate. 1. Cultural knowledge. In order to improve students' understanding of the national characteristics, values, social structure, interpersonal relations and social customs of China and western countries, the lectures will introduce systematically the history, culture, literature and art, higher education and social life of China, Britain and the United States and other major western countries. 2. Cultural comparisons. In order to improve students' sensitivity and tolerance to cultural differences, this paper adopts the form of discussion and takes cultural bidirectional expression as the core to compare and analyze the similarities and differences between Chinese and western cultures in a particular context. 3. Cultural exploration and practice. Cross-cultural oral and written expressions in different contexts are adopted. |
Acedemic English Reading & Writing 学术英语读写 | This course is designed with three levels of training and feedback in mind. Firstly, we use quality language input materials. In terms of phrases and sentence patterns, we use the British and American mainstream media for written materials. The content focuses on universality and international affairs, so the topics includes five major issues that contemporary students face and think about, namely, education and employment, gender equality, the importance of family education. Secondly, practice and task design try to combine language expression and thinking training. For example, ask the students to ask questions about the text and reply in their own words, train the students' ability Students ask questions, and learn the idiomatic English expression at the same time. Write summaries in their own words to train their ability to encapsulate and organize the text. These exercises integrate verbal expression and cognitive thinking. The goal of this course is to enable students to select accurate vocabulary, appropriate sentence structure, and use compact and logical discourse structure to express content with a certain amount of information and depth of thought through learning and training: 1. In terms of vocabulary: beyond daily vocabulary, familiar with the vocabulary needed for reading and writing tasks in a foreign learning environment; 2. In terms of sentences, beyond simple and single sentence patterns, master more complex sentence patterns that support a certain amount of information and depth of thought; 3. In terms of text structure, beyond simple paragraph writing, mastered the characteristics of writing requirements of various courses, and penetrated the basic principles and use transitional words and cohesive words effectively. 4. Math English 数学英语用语 | Combined with the characteristics of mathematics and English teaching, the whole English teaching method is adopted to teach mathematics courses, so that students can learn mathematics with English thinking and achieve their goal in a “win-win" situation. Literrature 文学 | Literature is an aesthetic course, but also cultivates students’ oral character, style, opinion and creativity. The main purpose of this course is to familiarize students with three major genres of English literature: fiction poetry and drama. Through the introduction of literary elements and the analysis of literary texts, it is helpful for them to better understand the works and the characteristics of novels, plays and poems in English literature, including the definition and characteristics of each genre, stories and plots, characters and characterization, backgrounds and themes, symbols and allegories, as well as various literary schools. Teaching goals: 1. Grasp the basic elements of literary knowledge. 2. Sports & Health 体育与健康 | This course consists of four parts: The first is sports knowledge (including golf, baseball, basketball and other sports), mainly about sports skills, sports "beauty", the relationship between sports and health, sports rules and practical understanding. The second is knowledge of health and safety. How to conduct oneself safely in the context of particular sports. Third, physical knowledge, mainly describes the relationship between physical fitness and life, health-related physical fitness. Induction, exercise, assessment methods, sports skills and related physical fitness. Induction exercise and assessment methods. Fourth, mental health and social adaptation knowledge. Everyday life, mental health and social adaptation problems. How to promote mental health and social adaptation ability through sports. Psychology 心理学 | This course will introduce the basic research categories and knowledge seeking methods of scientific psychology for beginners.
